Manor House and Animal Museum Open:
Weekdays (Except Fridays): 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Weekends: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Admission Fees - $5.00 adults / $4.00 seniors/students / $3.00 children 2-12 and FREE for members.

LeastSandpiper.jpg6     SUN  8:00 AM – 2:00 PM –  BIRD WATCHING AT JAMAICA BAY — Join GNC Executive Director Kurt Hundgen on an outing to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, considered one of the best locales for bird watching in the NY metropolitan area.  In his former position in the Department of Ornithology at the Bronx Zoo, Kurt led many excursions to this premier location.  Participants can either meet us at the Refuge, or ride with us.  (We can provide transportation for 15 people in GNC vehicles—sign up required-first come, first served).  Van leaves GNC promptly at 8:00 AM.  Walk begins promptly at 9:30 AM.  Pre-registration required.  Fee: Members - $25 with transportation, $20 without transportation; Non-members - $30 with     transportation, $25 without transportation.  Moderate walking will be involved.  Bring binoculars, if you have them.

geckofoot.jpg13    SUN  2:00 PM – BIOMIMICRY AND US — Join naturalist John Mancuso as he explores the Science of Biomimicry, where nature’s inspirations can turn into solutions to human problems.  Presentation with live animals, and nature walk with a “surprise test” to find inspiration in our own backyards.  For ages 8+.  Members-$3, Non-members-$5.  Sponsored in part by Westchester County Parks Department.

19    SAT  2:00 PM – FEEDING FUN — It’s lunchtime in our live animal museum.  Come see what’s on the menu.  Included with Museum admission.

earthhands.gif20    SUN  1:00 – 3:30 PM – EARTH DAY CELEBRATION — Join us for a fun, earth-friendly afternoon as we spruce up our grounds, prepare our garden beds, and clear our trails.  Then, enjoy a visit with our Museum animals.  Free.

Gardening as a hobby is generally thought to be both relaxing and rewarding, but it can also be sustainable, educational, and productive.  Join Naturalist Educator, Jennifer Sloan, and special guest, Russell Greenleaf, founder of Greenleaf Gardens and an expert on sustainable agriculture, for this series on organic gardening.  No matter your experience level or age there is something for anyone who loves to dig, grow, harvest, or just learn about plants.  Come be a part of this exciting expansion of our gardens!
Sundays, 10:30 AM, April 27, May 11, 25, June 1, 29.  See dates for specifics.

Learn all about where best to build your bed, how large to make it, and how to get many vegetables started inside to extend the growing season.  There will be hands-dirty opportunities for children.  Class runs approximately one hour.  Members-$2 per class, Non-members-$4.

27    SUN 2:00 PM – THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE (AND THE GOAT) — Senior naturalist Dean Fausel
will reprise some of his favorite children’s fables with his own unique touch.  Some of our favorite Museum animals will be in attendance.  Join the fun.  Members-$3, Non-members-$5.

4    SUN  11:30 AM – GNC HIGHLIGHTS TOUR — Take a guided tour of the gardens, trails and grounds, and learn about the treasures on the Nature Center’s 33 acres.  Trail maps provided.  Free.

White-tailed_deer.gif4    SUN  2:00 PM – WESTCHESTER’S WHITETAILS — Waiting  to enjoy spring’s flowers?  So are the deer!  Join Museum Curator Travis Brady as he discusses the ever-growing population of white-tailed deer in Westchester County.  He will address topics such as the health of our forests, selective culling and options for deer-proofing your garden.  Recommended for adults and children 8+.  Members-$3, Non-members $5.  Sponsored in part by Westchester County Parks Department.

flowerspot.gifbabyplant.gif11     SUN  10:30 AM – PLANT A GARDEN IN A POT FOR MOM — Cut flowers are nice, but potted ones make a lasting impression.  Join naturalist Jennifer Sloan to decorate your one-of-a-kind pot, then fill it with a flowering plant to present to Mom, then stay for a demonstration and Q&A with Russell Greenleaf about transplants and clippings.  Members-$5, Non-members-$8.

18    SUN  11:30 AM – 2:00 PM – BENEFIT BRUNCH AT THE SCARSDALE GOLF CLUB — In honor of former Executive Director Bill Lawyer.  Join us for a delicious brunch as we pay tribute to Bill Lawyer for his thirty years of service.  Includes a birds of prey demonstration.  Adults-$85.  Children under 12-$30.  Register by May 8.

babyplant.gif25    SUN 10:30 AM – SOIL PREPARATION, ORGANIC FERTILIZERS, & COMPANION PLANTING To build a strong garden bed, you must feed your soil, not the plants.  Jennifer and Russell will show you several easy yet amazingly productive methods to growing a bounty of healthy fruit and vegetable plants.  Children will hear the Legend of the Three Sisters: Corn, Beans, and Squash.  Class runs approximately one hour.  Members-$2 per class, Non-members-$4.

31    SAT  2:00 PM – FEEDING FUN
— Gobble, crunch, slurp, chomp.  It’s mealtime for our animals.  Come

babyplant.gif1    SUN 10:30 AM – ORGANIC WEED/PEST CONTROL & EFFICIENT WATERING METHODS Pesticides are damaging to the environment, and only a small percentage reaches its intended target.  Jennifer and Russell will discuss how to spot a pest problem and what organic solutions you can use to combat them.  Also, learn how to prepare for summer droughts.  Children will play a “Garden Visitors Friend or Foe” game.  Class runs approximately one hour.  Members-$2 per class, Non-members-$4.

song_sparrow.gif1    SUN 2:00 PM – THE MUSIC OF NATURE — Music is everywhere…in the woods, in the pond, in the rain, in the wind.  Join naturalist Jennifer Sloan on a woodland “ listening walk.”  Inspired by what we hear, we will use items provided by Mother Nature to make instruments and mimic nature’s orchestra.  Members-$3, Non-members-$5.

growinggreen.gif8    SUN  12:00 – 4:00 PM – GROWING GREEN FAMILY FESTIVAL — There’s something for everyone.  Enjoy family fun with musical entertainment, petting zoo, hayrides, games, and crafts.  Then stroll among booths and displays by local companies to learn about “green” technologies, products and services now available to help you save energy and enjoy a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.  Refreshments, gift items available for purchase.  Members: children-$7, adults-$1.  Non-members: children-$10, adults-$2.  Sponsored in part by Cablevision and Commerce Bank.

madscientistweb.gif22    SUN 2:00 PM – MAD SCIENTIST AT WORK — It’s shocking, it’s sensational, it’s stupendous – it’s science at work.  Come assist the Mad Scientist (a.k.a. Museum Curator Travis Brady) in performing wacky experiments, and discover some of the weirder wonders of science.  You are guaranteed a good slime.  Recommended for ages 6+.  Members-$3, Non-members-$5.

MoonManorOwl.gif28    SAT  5:30 PM – 29 SUN  8:30 AM – MEMBERS’ FAMILY CAMP-OUT — Enjoy a night of nature on the grounds of the Nature Center as we host our first family camp-out.  You supply your tent and sleeping bag, we’ll supply the nature.  Join us for an informal barbecue, then explore our moonlit trails with a GNC naturalist in search of owls and other night creatures.  Camp-out limited to ten families.  Reservations required.  First come, first served.  Each tent must include a minimum of one adult.  Fee: $90 per family (immediate family only).

babyplant.gif29    SUN 10:30 AM – FIRST HARVESTS & COMPOSTING The garden should be quite green by now!  Discover what to harvest and when, some culinary uses for our fruit and greens, and what to do with the “waste.”  Class runs approximately one hour.  Members-$2 per class, Non-members-$4.
